Are poinsettias poisonous?

Many people have heard over the years that using poinsettias as Christmas decorations may be a bad idea if you have small children or pets. Why? Because the plant’s leaves are widely believed to be poisonous. This is a myth, however, and although the leaves taste bad, they aren’t poisonous. The Christmas Myths blog, devoted to taking on and debunking myths about Christmas, featured an article this month on why the poinsettia is not poisonous.
