Infrared Headphones: Headphones the infra way

The wireless headphone technology and also the infrared wireless headphones have three main devices like the transmitter, the stereo and the headphones. As its wireless you do not need to directly connect the headphones to the stereo that you are playing to listen to music. You need to connect the transmitter to the stereo by plugging the cable into the headphone or another output connection. The transmitter is the main part in the headphone as it receives the output signals coming from the source of Music and transmits them to the headphones which should be at a certain maximum distance.

Such technology utilizes either the radio frequencies or infrared for working out the signal operations. When the headphones use infrared they need to be in sight of the transmitter without any walls or a table in the way. Since infrared technology is based entirely on light, it cannot pass through solids, hence this. The range is limited to 7 meters.

One can see that the audio quality is very good. If you connect them to your television you can even get the background subtle sound which you might not maybe able to catch with your Television speakers. This fantastic technology maximizes the clarity, reduces all distortion that can take place, filters out all the unwanted noise and increases the loudness that can be perceived without your having to turn up the volume. Sometimes there is a hiss in the background when you carry on for too long.
One can carry on moving about the room and it stays smooth. You can move freely around the room and it only starts to go fuzzy when you are almost perpendicular to the transmitter. There are four internal receivers in the headset so you can hear even with your back turned
These can cost about 2900 dollars or more depending upon the brand and the company. They may not be too stylish to look at but are very effective. They can look a bit heavy, but since you are using them at home it does not matter so much.
They are light in weight and have ear cushions made of foam, so are not oppressive to the ears and you don’t even feel you are wearing them .They may be having an auto shut off mechanism when they are out of the hearing range for a longish period of time., they have dual channels for optimal reception, they have an on-the ear volume controller and maybe foldable and can be accommodated in a hard case. They maybe operated on an AAA battery which could be lasting for 50 hours or more. So they are a great buy if you and the people around you want privacy. Let’s go into some further details:
1. The sound visits the stereo system through audio cables and into the infrared transmitter. This turns the sound into a series of pulses. These act a bit like the bits in a computer, and capture the sound information digitally. These are then sent to an infra red light emitting diode.
2. IR Light: The LED produces the light at a particular wavelength. This is a long wavelength infrared light. This gets blocked by solid objects so only works in free space.
The head phones convert the light back into sound. The receiver has an infra red CDS cell which produces an electric pulse every time infra light hits it. These are converted by a computer in the receiver into audio signals. This is then amplified and sent to the headphone and played by it.
